After raising of Hotel Kvarner building, a need for another hotel structure came forward. Only a year later, that is in 1885 as well as in accordance with the plans of Viennese architect Franz Wilhelm, the hotel Kronprinzessin Stephanie was built. It was named after the wife of the crown prince Rudolf Habsburg. The imperial family attended the ceremonial inauguration and all the while this Opatija’s architectural beauty were handing all the luxury to its guests. So it is not uncommonly for this hotel to be subsequently chosen by many of crowned superiors either as a holiday destination or just for spending their leisure time on. Among a number of prominent figures who were guests of this hotel, just to be mentioned the name of Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph as well as famous writer James Joyce. The beautiful Golden Hall exudes the most breathtaking spirit of the past. From that period until today, we can admire the well-preserved golden stucco work and richly painted walls. While the luxurious Stephanie has been particularly favoured since its old times, the hotel’s spacious corridors and wide marble stairs offers us even today the pleasure that crowned heads were feeling while sliding across its dancing floor. This Art Nouveau beauty is expected for royal weddings. The weddings of up to 180 guests are made possible in this Art Nouveau loveliness.
